"We don't want anyone to carry us on their back, we just want someone to walk with us."
We visited two remarkable healthcare ministries today.
The first was a clinic. Rather than building hospitals and staffing them with western doctors, World Renew trains local healthcare volunteers trusted by the community who are able to connect pregnant women and mothers of young children to the existing healthcare structure. These healthcare volunteers are at the frontline of implementing cost-effective, sustainable health interventions. The result? Zero home deliveries over the past year, and a dramatic decline in the number of sick children and in the number of babies born with HIV.
The second ministry we visited, also a health clinic, has developed further to include water tanks, a vegetable garden, and a community center. With all the confidence in the world the people working at this ministry location told us, "We don't want anyone to carry us on their back, we just want someone to walk with us."
