Wednesday night was the coldest night we have experienced here, but we awoke to a beautiful sunrise coming up in the hills of the Las Minas Village.  We had our morning coffee with cookies and muffins while we discussed our tasks at hand for the day.

We started first thing in the morning by having a group work on putting rebar together, another group to help mix concrete together in piles on the ground with shovels, and one last group still...

After a little bit of a cooler night, which was a nice change, we awoke to a beautiful sunrise for our morning coffee.  We began our day by splitting into two groups, one was to continue work on the trench to the water project pipe and the other would continue working at the school site.  While the one group continued to trench for the rest of the morning, the second group was eventually told the trench they were digging in...

A beautiful Tuesday morning began at 6 am with fresh coffee and cookies before our start to the day. Today's work required us to divide into three groups and begin digging trenches again.  One group continued with the trench up the road to the main pipe for the water project tie in. This will enable the village to use the water from the new tank. The second group started a trench to another house that will use the new water...

Alarms go off at 6 am Monday morning which means play time is over and our first day of work has begun.

Morning coffee till about 6:30am and then we started to see the shovels and pick axe's come out from the darkness.  The first task we were given was to dig a trench beside the fence by the main road to bring a new water line down from the water project that was worked on last year.  We began...

We started our second day in Las Minas with a very early morning. We were awakened by the roosters and dogs letting us all know they were still in the village, at 4:30 am.  We managed to stay sleeping a little longer before we had morning coffee and breakfast while organizing our Sunday school program. This included chopping pieces of bamboo with a very large machete. At 10 am Sunday school started with many different children from around the community....

Our morning began with breakfast at 7:45, which may be a late start compared to the rest of the week. After breakfast we were given some free time in which some of us went for a walk around Olanchito and the others took time to rest and pack. Orientation began at 10:00 and apart from some very uncomfortable chairs it was a good time. We were informed of how to be culturally respectful, and the vision and work of ALFALIT...

Our journey to Las Minas began at 3:45 am on Thursday the 16th of February. Pastor Art was kind enough to meet us at the church early in the morning and see us off on our trip with a very nice prayer.  We departed from Edmonton at 8 am and landed in Houston at 1:30, from there all 16 of us jumped into a bus and went for a late lunch at the Monument Inn, which over looked the waterway....
